The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia. Its population is 26,3 billion and it borders China in the north and India in the south. Kathmandu is the country’s largest city and capital. Nepal struggles with the transition of a monarchy to a republic and is defined as a developing country, ranking the 144th on the Human Development Index in 2016. Apart from its early history in terms of political changes, Nepal suffered in the last years from several devastating earthquakes, kicking them back in terms of development. The country suffers from hunger and poverty and with it a lack of infrastructure, good education and a good health system including sanitary systems.
